Dear AfroCaribe Family, In
light of the Haiti crisis, I am reminded of my heartfelt connection to
the Caribbean and its people who throughout history demonstrate
strength, unity and empowerment during times of great struggle and
suffering. Dance has given me a kinship and closeness to the rich
culture of this region and enabled me to appreciate the resilience and
joy of the human spirit. I hope you will join me in celebrating world
art as expressed by the irrepressible Haitians this month. I'd
like to thank Professor David Gere of the UCLA World Arts and Culture
Department for inviting me to perform as part of the Help Haiti benefit
in January. It was an honor to contribute to such a worthy cause. Over
500 people attended and together we raised over $5,000 that was donated
